Vasile Opriș is an archaeologist and a graduate of the Faculty of History, University of Bucharest (2007–2010), where he also completed an in‑depth master’s degree program (2010–2012). He obtained his PhD in 2017 at the “Vasile Pârvan” Institute of Archaeology of the Romanian Academy, with a thesis dedicated to the technology and functionality of Boian–Gumelnița pottery, which forms the basis of the present volume.

He specializes in the study of prehistoric pottery, with particular interest in the technological and functional analysis of Eneolithic pottery from southern Romania. His research activity is based on an interdisciplinary approach, which integrates macroscopic analysis, archaeometric methods, and experimental archaeology applied to pottery and other clay artifacts.

 

Between 2011 and 2017, he participated as a member in national projects dedicated to the reconstruction of prehistoric identities and the investigation of Neolithic societies through experimental archaeology, contributing to the analysis, replication, and publication of Boian-Gumelnița pottery in specialized journals and volumes both in Romania and abroad. Between 2017 and 2022, he coordinated interdisciplinary activities regarding the characterization of prehistoric pottery and decorative pigments. Between 2025 and 2027, he implemented a research project dedicated to evaluating the archaeological potential of Eneolithic tells in the Bucharest area. Currently, he is the head of the Systematic Archaeology and History Department at the Bucharest Municipality Museum, involved in the research, publication, and valorization of archaeological heritage, particularly from the prehistoric sites of Sultana, Gumelnița, and Glina, coordinating the latter as the scientific manager of the archaeological research.

 

In parallel, he has coordinated two collective volumes as editor, published numerous internationally peer-reviewed scientific articles, and presented papers at prestigious conferences. Through his activity, he established himself as a well-trained researcher in the field of archaeosciences, with a coherent and independent research direction.
